Pin donations
Proceeds from every pin purchased before November 3rd will be donated to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to support their fight against voter suppression.
How much money is donated when I buy a product?
For each pin purchased, it is estimated between $2 and $4 will be donated (following crafting and shipping costs).
How will I know the proceeds were donated?
I will be sharing a confirmation email with all buyers once proceeds have been donated so that you can rest assured knowing funds went to the right place.
Why fight voter suppression?
Voter suppression is used as a strategy to limit certain groups of voters from casting ballots. Groups that are particularly susceptible to voter suppression are people of color, people with disabilities, students, and more. Examples of modern day voter suppression include voter ID laws, felony disenfranchisement, gerrymandering, and more. Everyone has the right to vote in this country, so it is imperative that we protect those rights.
What does the ACLU do?
The ACLU is a 100 year old nonprofit organization that works to defend and preserve individuals rights and liberties. The organization works to end mass incarceration, ensure reproductive freedom, protect free speech, achieve full equality for LGBTQ+ people, establish new digital age privacy protections, combat voter suppression, and more.
In reference to their commitment to fight for voters’ rights, the ACLU states:
“Following the 2016 election, the fight for voting rights remains as critical as ever. Politicians across the country continue to engage in voter suppression, efforts that include additional obstacles to registration, cutbacks on early voting, and strict voter identification requirements. Through litigation and advocacy, the ACLU is fighting back against attempts to curtail an essential right in our democracy, the right to vote.
In addition to this litigation, we are working with our affiliates to advocate for policies that make it easier for Americans to vote, such as the expansion of same-day and online voter registration.”
